OZONE THERAPY

WHAT IS OZONE THERAPY

Ozone therapy = oxidative stress therapy

Ozone therapy is a medical procedure that has recently become more utilised in the medical field due to its therapeutic and restorative effects. It uses a controlled administration of ozone (a gas made up of 3 oxygen molecules) to promote health advantages by increasing oxygen in the body. This supports the immune system and wound healing due to the stimulation of cell regeneration, which replaces or repairs damaged cells. An important and interesting feature is the capability of ozone therapy in activating the body’s antioxidant system which increases the body’s ability to fend off oxidative stress and free radical damage. Ozone also possesses anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating properties, which can help in treating multiple chronic conditions.

WHAT IT IS USED FOR

The application of ozone therapy can be used for:

  • Wound healing
  • Cancer supportive care
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Viral infections
  • Rheumatic diseases
  • Antiaging
  • Circulation problems
  • Varicose veins

This type of therapy is used in many fields of medicine including aesthetics, vascular diseases, autoimmune diseases and much more.

BENEFITS OF OZONE THERAPY

Research has shown that when patients underwent ozone therapy, they experienced:

  • Reduced brain fatigue
  • Faster healing
  • Higher levels of energy and mental clarity
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Reactivation of microcirculation

Ozone therapy is mostly innocuous and does not present many contraindications, however, always inform the doctor of any medical issues in order to discuss if this treatment can be applied to you.

OZONE THERAPY IN WELLNESS

Ozone therapy is used by health-conscious people to support their general well-being, boost immune system performance, and boost vitality. Ozone therapy can also be used to address hair loss by injecting ozone into the scalp to strengthen hair follicles as well as increasing the vascularization in the scalp to promote better hair growth. This procedure can also act as a preventive measure to reduce the chance of experiencing hair loss as well as improve the strength of dry and brittle hair in addition to tackling issues related to dandruff.

CIRCULATION PROBLEMS AND VARICOSE VEINS

Another popular request amongst patients is the minimization of varicose veins- which can also be treated with ozone therapy. Ozone has shown positive results in contrasting circulation problems that cause discomfort, pain and cosmetic-related concerns such as varicose veins, as it aims to improve blood circulation and reduce inflammation. Bad circulation can lead to serious health issues including cold hands and feet, swelling and the formation of said varicose veins in the legs and feet, which could increase the probability of blood clots. The method of administration of ozone to tackle varicose veins is through the use of autohemotherapy.

HOW IT IS ADMINISTERED

The way it is administered at Cornerstone Clinic can vary depending on the condition that is being treated. These methods include:

  • Major Autohemotherapy (MAH): a small amount of the patient’s blood will be drawn and mixed with ozone to then introduce this new oxygen-rich blood back into the body to aid the immune system.
  • Ozone injection: these can be intramuscular, intra-articular, subcutaneous or intradiscal to target specific tissues, joints, or other painful and inflamed points.
  • Ozone IV infusion – the Ozone IV Infusion is mixed with 200 ml of normal saline solution then it is infused via IV back into the body.
  • Ozone Rectal Insufflation – the Ozone is injected directly into the rectum and takes 2 – 3 minutes.

DURATION OF THE PROCEDURE

The patient’s reaction to the therapy determines how many times the treatment can be done. For acute problems, usually, a few sessions can be considered necessary while for more chronic conditions these may be more spread out over weeks or months to come. The qualified doctor at Cornerstone Clinic will best plan according to the patient’s needs in order to get the anticipated results.

AM I SUITABLE FOR OZONE THERAPY

The procedure is considered safe when administered by a licensed medical professional on the Cornerstone team that will carefully recommend the correct dosages for the treatment. A few side effects may be acknowledged and these include minor discomforts, such as pain in the injection site, that normally passes rapidly. It is very important to inform the doctor of any existing medical issues and medicines that are regularly taken to minimise the side effects. Ozone therapy may not be suitable for patients with cases of active bleeding disorders or favism (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase 9GPD) deficiency as well as those who have respiratory issues and pregnant women.
