A Skin Peel, also known as a ‘Chemical Peel,” is a cosmetic technique used to

resurface and improve the appearance of the skin using a special chemical solution.

Once applied, the skin will “blister” and eventually peel off. The new skin is usually

smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. This can reduce the appearance of fine

lines and wrinkles and give new life to sun-damaged skin. This is a great treatment for

pigmentation, as it is gentler than lasers and prevents hyperpigmentation.

WHAT IS A SKIN PEEL

A chemical peel is a non-surgical procedure that uses a carefully chosen acidic solution to remove the outer layers of your skin. The depth of penetration of the solution determines the intensity of the peel and the targeted concerns. Superficial peels address surface-level issues like fine lines and uneven skin tone, while medium peels target deeper concerns like wrinkles and sun damage. Deeper peels provide the most dramatic results but also involve longer healing times.

Although most often used to treat the face, Chemical Peels may also be used to treat skin on the arms, legs, hands, neck, back, and buttocks.

Post-Treatment Care: The doctor will provide specific instructions on post-peel care, including sun protection and proper hydration.

Prior to your treatment, it is advised to stop exfoliating and to keep your skin as hydrated as possible. After your treatment, your skin will peel for around 3–10 days. The need for numbing cream and anaesthetic will depend on the treatment you choose. Some skin peels are relatively painless, while a deep Chemical Peel can cause discomfort. Your surgeon will be able to discuss the various options with you.

Chemical peels can be a powerful tool when combined with other aesthetic treatments for enhanced results. Microneedling, for instance, can further improve the absorption of beneficial products post-peel. Laser treatments can also be used in conjunction with peels to target specific concerns like stubborn pigmentation or deeper wrinkles.

DURATION OF THE BENEFITS

The results of chemical peels can vary depending on the depth of the peel and your individual skin. Superficial peels may show a noticeable improvement within a few days, while medium peels may take several weeks. WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR SKIN PEELS

Chemical peels are generally safe for individuals with various skin concerns. However, they are not suitable for everyone. People with certain skin conditions, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and those with a history of keloid scarring are not ideal candidates.
