Gynecomastia surgery in Dubai, also known as male breast reduction, is a surgical procedure to correct gynecomastia, a common condition of increased breast size in men. This often results in the breast becoming fatty and even saggy, causing men to be self-conscious about their appearance. Gynecomastia develops when there is an imbalance between the hormones oestrogen (stimulates breast growth) and testosterone (inhibits breast growth). It often occurs during the teenage years and resolves itself over time. However, it can also occur in adulthood. This can be due to many factors, including hormones, certain medical conditions, or the side effects of other medications. Unfortunately, diet and exercise alone cannot correct gynecomastia, and therefore, the excess fatty tissue and breast glands must be surgically removed to restore a flatter, more masculine appearance.

You will have an initial consultation with one of our board-certified surgeons, Dr Maurizio Viel, who will determine if you are a suitable candidate for gynecomastia surgery in Dubai. On the day of your surgery, you will be sedated before undergoing the operation to remove the excess fatty tissue and breast glands. There are usually two
elements to this surgery: first, Vaser liposuction to remove excess fat, and then, gland excision to remove enlarged glandular tissue. If gynecomastia has led to stretching of the skin, excess skin may also be removed during surgery, resulting in a smoother, more masculine breast. The whole process takes around 1.5 hours, and most patients can return home the same day.
Your postoperative instructions will be discussed with your surgeon, and the healing time will vary from patient to patient depending on the size of the area being treated and how your body naturally heals. After surgery, you will be required to wear a compression garment to help speed up your recovery and ensure the breast is held in the correct position. You will experience some bruising and swelling in the area that has been treated, and it is quite common for the breast to appear slightly uneven to begin with, but this will settle over time. You can typically return to work after 5-7 days and resume light exercise after 2 weeks. You will also be required to have follow-up consultations with your surgeon to monitor the progress of your surgery.
Gynecomastia surgery is not recommended until puberty has ended, not before the age of 18. To be considered a suitable candidate for this surgery, patients should be close to their ideal weight and have good skin elasticity.
