You may have heard of liposuction procedure but VASER liposuction is the latest development for pain-free fat removal. The VASER technology was initially created to tackle brain tumours – hence its accuracy and it’s far more gentle compared with traditional methods. The latest in ultrasonic-assisted systems and the most advanced approach to fat removal available today, VASER liposuction is just like liposuction except much less disruptive because it doesn’t require general anaesthetic or major post-recovery time yet has great body sculpting results. VASER is short for ‘vibration amplification of sound energy at resonance’. In a nutshell, this is ultrasound technology which uses powerful waves to break apart fat cells. This ultrasound liposuction procedure is unique and exciting because it is so gentle, safe and precise and can target body fat while leaving healthy and important body tissues unharmed.
The perfect procedure for areas like the stomach and thighs where unwanted layers of fat just won’t budge, no matter how many crunches or lifts you do! And for removing fat from other areas including your hips, love handles, knees, back, arms, neck and chin – VASER liposuction targets those stubborn spots that just won’t react to diet and exercise. And while liposuction is not a weight loss tool, VASER liposuction gives amazing results to anyone who is almost there with their weight but just needs that little extra help to remove fat deposits and reveal muscle tone.
The VASER liposuction procedure is performed at a day hospital and carried out under light sedation to ensure that your experience is as comfortable as possible – you will essentially sleep through it. As VASER liposuction surgery doesn’t disturb any surrounding tissue other than fat cells or subject the body to unnecessary trauma, there is much less bruising and bleeding than typically associated with fat removal. The operation will take between 1 and 4 hours depending on the number of areas to be treated and while you might feel a little soreness (similar to if you have worked out too hard at the gym) for about a few days you’ll be back to normal life and activities almost immediately – only this time with a smoother, slimmer silhouette.
We ask patients to stop taking medications that contain aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) as this reduces the blood’s ability to cloth and heal and may cause excessive bleeding during the surgery. Patients should also stop taking Vitamin, large amounts of garlic and alcohol as this has the same effect. If you require pain medication during that week we ask patient to take paracetamol or ibuprofen.
After the surgery, most patients typically stay for an additional 2 – 4 hours allowing us to monitor your progress and recovery after anaesthesia. We ask patients to arrange transportation as you are not permitted to drive for the subsequent 48 hours post sedation.
Recovery time varies from patient to patient and from the areas that have been operated but you should expect some discomfort and pain. Most patients return to light activities after 48-hours with the exception of heavy lifting, exercise and other similar strenuous activities. The recovery is much quicker compared with traditional methods.

All surgical procedures carry some uncertainties and risks. The FDA approved the use of VASER Liposuction as a system for removing fat in 2002. It is a gentle and precise method that leaves surrounding tissues, blood vessels relatively untouched.
However, there could be contouring irregularities, loss of sensation for a short or permanent period of time, blood clots, burns, skin discouloration etc. All these risks can be reduced by patients following post-surgical protocols.

The VASER is patented technology from the USA and FDA approved. Initially created to remove brain tumours for its accuracy and efficiency; it was found that if set at the right ultrasound frequency it could also remove fat cells whilst leaving surrounding tissue and blood vessels relatively intact. This means less bleeding, bruising, pain and a quicker recovery compared with more traditional methods. This technology can be used on the tummy, back, arms, inner and outer thighs.
It depends on the nature of the patient’s occupation. If it’s a desk job, the patient can go back to work in 3 to 4 days post-surgery. If it requires travelling, the patient can resume work 1 week post-surgery, after the stitches has been removed. The same rule applies for a patient who is travelling.
VASER Liposuction uses ultrasound waves that are set a frequency to target only fat cells. When the waves hit, they fat cells melt but leaving the surrounding tissue and veins relatively untouched. This means there more fat can be removed during the surgery and there is less bleeding, bruising, swelling for the patient resulting in a quicker recovery compared with traditional methods. Light exercise such as walking and stretching can be done 1 week after the surgery. However, other exercises like cardio exercise can be done 2 to 3 weeks post-surgery. This may depend on patient’s capability to do these exercises. It always best to listen to ones body and assess if the body can fully accommodate these types of exercises or not.
There will be a minimal bruising and swelling which will go down in 2 to 3 weeks.
We give a package of 2 manual lymphatic drainage massages on the week of the surgery and 3 LPG sessions, 2 weeks post-surgery.
The patient needs to wear a compressive garment for 1 week. This will be removed 1 week after the surgery, at the same time with stitch removal. Usually, Dr Maurizio Viel advises the patient to wear the garment for 2 to 3 weeks more, for 6 to 8 hours. The patient needs to come back monthly for the first 3 months to see the surgeon for a follow-up check-up.
This will vary based on the amount of fat being removed, the target area and the number of areas in the body that are being treated. Some discomfort may be felt. However, lifestyle choices like rest, hydration and not smoking will make healing time faster. Most common postsurgical effects can include some swelling, bruising and tenderness in the area of the procedure. The surgical team will offer some options on pain relief after surgery.

It can be done in the double Chin, Back of Neck, Bottom of Upper Arms, Female Breasts, Outer Thighs or Saddlebags, Bra Strap Area, Abdomen or Belly Pooch, Love Handles and Male Breasts. The incisions are less than 1 cm so they are discreet and most marks heal well and are no longer visible in a few weeks.
The amount of fat that can be removed in an area during a single procedure will vary depending on a variety of factors, including the surgeon’s assessment of the patient’s health and his or her aesthetic goals. The removal of fat is also not correlated to weight loss but to obtain the right curves and shapes. Fat can be removed from the abdomen, back, flanks, arms, inner and out thighs.
