5 Things To Know About Blepharoplasty
Our Tips For Eyelid/Eye Bag Surgery
Your eyes give a lot away – whether you’re tired, sad or happy – they also show your age once the surrounding skin starts to become looser and droopy (which can make you look sad or angry even if you’re not!). If you’ve noticed that your eyelids are starting to feel and look heavier, or you have larger eye bags underneath your eyes then there’s a very simple procedure that can make a huge difference and give you beautiful, open eyes and a fresh look. Here are a few things to know…
- Blepharoplasty is not purely cosmetic – it can also have medical benefits. While the procedure will remove excess skin thus making you look fresher and younger and helping with the application of makeup (no more eye shadow getting stuck in the creases!), it can also alleviate that ‘heavy’ feeling in the eyelids – which can make you tired and can even partially obscure your vision.
- You can opt for eyelid or under eye surgery – or combine the two if necessary (our surgeons will advise you on what’s best for your face). Eyelid surgery will correct a ‘hooded’ eyelid while under eye surgery will remove eye bags.
- The procedure is very simple and usually takes only an hour under sedation. Our surgeons are absolute experts when dealing with the delicate skin around your eyes- when it comes to upper eyelid surgery, this involves an incision made in the natural crease above your eye and a removal of excess skin and fat plus, if necessary, slight adjustments to the surrounding muscles. And as for lower eyelid surgery, an incision is usually made on the outer edge of your eye and sagging skin removed in a way that will provide natural, gorgeous results.
- The recovery period is straightforward so there’s no need to worry about being out of action for weeks. As with any surgery, the area will feel a little sore and could be swollen and bruised for the first few days – but very quickly these symptoms will subside. Our team will provide you with everything you need to help with any pain or discomfort. You should rest for a few days – avoid heavy lifting and exercise and wear dark glasses to protect the skin and let it heal (no sunbathing!). And after a couple of weeks you’ll be feeling great – and looking great too.
- This is one of the most requested and popular procedures – and the results speak for themselves! Have more questions or still feeling unsure? Just book in for a consultation, we’d love to help.
