Fixing a broken tooth in Dubai

If you have a broken tooth in Dubai, it is important to visit your dentist as soon as possible. A broken tooth is a dental emergency. Whether you have a minor chip, a major break, pain, or no pain, your tooth has been compromised can will be susceptible to other problems, like infections and decay. Our highly experienced general dentist at Cornerstone Clinic, Dubai, will be able to assess the extent of the damage and advise on the best treatment needed to fix your broken tooth and restore your smile.

Below we have listed some of the common causes of a broken tooth in Dubai as well as the treatment options available.

Common causes of a broken tooth

  • Playing contact sports
  • Falling or being involved in an accident
  • Chewing or biting on hard foods
  • Excessive clenching of the jaw
  • Acid reflux, which can damage the tooth enamel and weaken the teeth
  • Age: teeth weaken as we age and can become fragile and break
  • Dental cavities that are not addressed can lead to breakage of the teeth
  • General wear and tear

How to restore a broken tooth

The good news is that there are many options available to restore a broken tooth. Your dentist will assess the severity of the break, whether any damage was done within the tooth and its root, and the level of pain you are experiencing to be able to advise which treatment will be the most relevant.

Some of the most common restorative dentistry treatments to fix a broken tooth include:

  1. Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a non-invasive cosmetic dental procedure that uses a tooth-coloured composite resin material that quickly and easily fixes the broken tooth. An ultraviolet light is used to bond the resin to the surface of the tooth, restoring your smile. Unlike other dental treatments, it is completely reversible.

  1. Dental filling

For smaller breaks, your dentist may use a dental filling to fix the damaged tooth. Your dentist will clean the tooth and remove any decay. They will then restore the break with either a white composite resin or a silver amalgam, returning the tooth to its normal size and shape.

  1. Dental Implant

If the break in the tooth extends below the gumline and the tooth cannot be saved, then your dentist may advise that the tooth be removed (extracted) and replaced with a dental implant.

  1. Reshaping

For very minor breaks, tooth reshaping, also known as odontoplasty, may be the best treatment. It is low cost and can fix chips, uneven, misaligned, or cracked teeth. It is a painless procedure that removes some of the enamel to reshape the broken tooth.

  1. Dental Veneers

If you have a break in your front tooth, another option is a dental veneer. A dental veneer is a thin shell of tooth-coloured porcelain or resin composite that covers the whole front of the tooth. The customized porcelain veneer is incredibly tough and strengthens the tooth while restoring your broken tooth and smile.

  1. Root canal and dental crown

If the tooth is broken down to the root, then a root canal may be the only option to save the tooth and keep it functional. A root canal removes the damaged root, replacing it with a plastic filling. After the root canal procedure, your dentist will place a crown over the tooth to strengthen and protect it.

  1. Onlay

If your molars have a break or large crack, your dentist may recommend a dental onlay to correct the issue. Your dentist will remove any decay from the effected tooth, take an impression, and a porcelain onlay will be placed over the broken tooth.

If you have a broken tooth in Dubai the first thing you should do is rinse your mouth with warm salt water to flush any debris, and avoid biting down on the tooth. You should then book an emergency dental appointment at Cornerstone Clinic Dubai so that our dentist, Dr Carla Cyrino, can treat the effected tooth before any further infection, decay, or damage is caused.
