What exactly are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are essentially very thin shells for your own teeth – made of porcelain and custom-made/bonded to your teeth to improve their appearance (changing the shape, colour and size).
How are the veneers attached to my teeth?
Porcelain veneers are attached to your teeth using a special dental bonding glue or cement.
How long does the procedure take and is it painful?
During an initial consultation the dentist will take impressions of your teeth to be sent to a lab, along with a design for your new smile! After this, the veneers procedure will typically take another 2 sessions, the first of which will allow you to ‘try on’ your new smile with a mockup of the final veneers and then the second to actually fit the real things! The actual bonding takes up to 60 minutes and is absolutely not painful at all.
Will it be obvious that I have veneers?
Our specialist dentists are absolute experts and incredibly well practiced in applying veneers, making sure that they look exactly like tooth enamel.
Are the veneers strong and will I be able to eat normally?
Veneers may be thin but they are very strong! Once bonded, you need to take care of them exactly as you would your own teeth – and with good oral hygiene and regular dental checks they can even last up to 15 years.
You mouth may feel a little strange with new veneers but after a day you’ll be able to return to normal eating – crunchy apples and all!
Why porcelain veneers and not composite?
Composite resin is another material used to create veneers but it’s not one that we use or recommend. Porcelain is much stronger and can last twice as long to composite. And yes the latter may be cheaper but it’s not as durable, it’s more susceptible to staining and it doesn’t look as natural. For us, it’s porcelain all the way!
