MACS Facelift Dubai – The Unique Short Scar Facelift

When considering facelift surgery in Dubai, the biggest fear most people have is ending up with the “windswept” look. Patients who would like to achieve the wrinkle-eliminating, anti-aging results of a facelift, without going through the extensive surgery and recovery process can now opt for the MACS (minimal access cranial suspension) facelift. This unique short-scar facelift technique produces beautifully natural results with shorter incisions and less scarring than a traditional facelift.

In this article, we will look at what the MACS facelift is, the treatment process, and who is a good candidate.

What is a MACS facelift?

The MACS facelift is a less intensive version of a complete facelift and is a good option for patients who have mild-to-moderate loss of elasticity and have started to see sagging in their lower cheeks and jawline. This innovative technique only lifts the lower portion of the face, helping to reduce jowls, nasolabial folds, and loose skin around the neck and chin. Often referred to as a mini facelift, this procedure is more affordable and less invasive than a traditional facelift, meaning less recovery time and scarring and incredibly natural results.

What does a MACS facelift involve?

You will first need to book a consultation with one of our cosmetic surgeons, who will be able to determine if you are a suitable candidate for the MACS facelift in Dubai. The surgery can then either be performed under local anaesthesia or sedation, whichever the patient prefers. We would also recommend the surgery to be performed under sedation for comfort. During the operation, your surgeon will make short incisions from the top crease in front of the ear to the earlobe. They will then insert multiple sutures into the deep tissue, lifting and securing it in a higher position, and any excess skin will be removed. The MACS facelift addresses sagging tissues in the neck, cheeks, chin, and around the nose. The procedure is a day surgery, and once you have had time to recover, you can usually go home the same day.

What are the benefits of a MACS facelift?

The MACS facelift, also known as the short scar facelift or mini facelift, has many benefits in comparison with the traditional facelift. Some of which include:

  • It is a minimally invasive surgery in comparison to traditional facelifts
  • It requires shorter recovery time
  • It is less expensive
  • It offers natural looking results without the windswept effect
  • It helps contour the face by removing stubborn fat
  • It can help define your jawline
  • It leaves little to no scarring

Who is a good candidate?

You are considered a good candidate for the MACS facelift in Dubai if you have mild-to-moderate signs of aging.  This is not about age as they are women mid-40s who make good candidates for a facelift due to genetics and lifestyle and there are still women in their 60s who do not require a facelift. You should also be in good health and not be a smoker. Ideal patients are those who:

  • Have loose skin around the neck and chin
  • Have mild-to-moderate loss of skin elasticity and muscle tone in the face and neck
  • Have jowls and deep creases between the base of their nose and the corners of their mouth
  • Have moderate to severe wrinkles on the face and neck

Recovery and results

Your specific aftercare procedure will be discussed with your cosmetic surgeon, Dr Maurizio Viel or one of his team of cosmetic surgeons, and the recovery time will vary from patient to patient. After surgery, you will be required to wear a large dressing around your face for 24 hours. Your surgeon will remove these the following day, and you will then be required to wear a supportive elastic bandage to help speed up your recovery and to hold your face in the correct position. You will have bruising and swelling to the face that typically lasts 1-2 weeks. You can ice your face during this time and take pain medication and anti-inflammatory drugs to aid in the recovery process. On average, people can return to work two weeks after surgery.

The results of the MACS facelift vary in length depending on the elasticity of your skin and the lifestyle you lead, but generally can be enjoyed for up to 10 years. For maximum results, you should maintain a healthy diet, minimise weight gain, and reduce sun exposure.

If you are looking for a less invasive option to the traditional facelift that can help improve skin laxity and leave you with smoother, younger looking skin, then book a consultation with Dr Maurizio Viel at Cornerstone Clinic, Dubai.
