Platelet Rich Plasma Facial Rejuvenation – importance for healing
PRP Facial rejuvenation, also known as platelet-rich plasma facial rejuvenation is a cosmetic procedure that uses the patient’s own blood to boost skin rejuvenation and to improve the quality of the skin by healing the skin using the platelet-rich plasma. To explain it better, when there is a cut, it’s the platelets within the blood that rise up to the surface to heal the wound. This concentrated version helps heal the skin improving appearance and texture of the skin.
Here is a general overview of the treatment
Dr Maurizio Viel, Italian plastic surgeon, will begin with a consultation to assess your skin and to discuss your skin goals, and he will also explain the procedure. Some patients will be advised to do one session, whilst others will be advised to do 2 – 3 sessions at various intervals.
Our team of nurses will collect a small tube of blood and it’s similar to a blood test.
The blood is then placed in a centrifuge to separate the blood cells from the PRP. This concentrated plasma also contains a higher concentration of platelets and growth factors.
Usually, the face is cleaned and we allow for the patients to have their skin numbed to ensure a more comfortable treatment process, and it allows Dr Maurizio Viel to work at a deeper skin level.
Depending on the skin goals, the PRP is applied with two different methods, micro-needling, derma rollers injections or a combination of them all. Micro-needling and derma rollers create tiny punctures on the skin’s surface allowing for deeper penetration. Injections can target specific problems on the skin.
Once the PRP has been applied, the skin may be red. Depending on your ethnicity, it will depend on the redness. Those with paler skin will be more prone to more redness than those patients with darker skin types. This maybe the case for 24 – 48 hours after the treatment and it depends on the depths of the needles.
It’s important to choose a reputable clinic to perform this treatment as it is considered a medical treatment and PRP kits vary in quality affecting results. Many places offer PRP treatments but the results can vary based on the experience of the practitioner and the quality of the kit.
