Routine Check-Ups for Every Age | Dr Ruhil Badiani | Cornerstone Clinic | Dubai

Our busy lifestyles often lead to our health not being a top priority when our body is our most valuable asset. Regular health screening can identify risk factors, diagnose diseases early, and help us make positive lifestyle changes. By getting the correct screenings and treatments, you are taking important steps toward living a longer, healthier life. At Cornerstone Clinic, Dubai Marina, we have a UK-trained family physician who can perform a full health assessment and discuss any specific health concerns you may have.

The general guidelines for routine check-ups and screening include:

  • INFANTS (0-2 years): regular pediatric visits are needed to monitor their growth and weight gain, administer vaccinations, and check for potential health concerns.
  • CHILDREN (3-18 years): annual health exams, vaccinations, and developmental assessments. Teenagers may also require yearly blood work and a mental health assessment.
  • ADULTS (18-39 years): general health check-ups should be done every 1 to 3 years. Women should have gynaecological visits regularly, including Pap smears, starting at 21.
  • ADULTS (40-64 years): Annual health check-ups are recommended. Women should opt for breast cancer screenings starting at the age of 40, and men should have prostate health checks starting from the age of 50. Colon cancer screening for both sexes should begin at 45 years old.
  • SENIORS (65+ years): Annual check-ups that include screenings for heart disease, diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, and mental health. Regular vision and hearing tests are also important, as well as immunisations (e.g., flu, pneumonia, and shingles vaccines). Colon cancer screenings should continue until age 75.

These guidelines provide a general overview of the health checks that are generally required to evaluate overall health. These check-ups should however be adapted according to individual risk factors including family history towards specific diseases. Your general practitioner will follow you through all the different ages, and suggest the most appropriate course of action to better your health.
