Hair loss treatment at Cornerstone Clinic, Dubai Marina, can be treated with stem cell therapy. Stem cell therapy is a procedure that requires the collection of a small amount of stem cell tissue that is extracted from the patient’s fat. The fat is then sent to a state-of-the-art laboratory to extract and multiply the stem cells – this process may take 2 – 3 weeks, and then this is reinjected 3 – 5 times over a couple of months to boost natural hair growth. The injected cells then release specific growth factors that improve the regeneration of the hair, resulting in the patient’s own hair growing back.
When it comes to the exact cause of hair loss, many factors come into play as it is not so simple to attribute one specific cause as many patients tend to have more contributing factors. Typically, some hair loss can be attributed to age, genetics, hormones, stress, illnesses and lifestyle choices. We at Cornerstone Clinic see stress as a trigger, as well as hormones, as factors that contribute more to the issue these days.
It is important that the patient sees the doctor first to understand if they can benefit from stem cell therapy since not everyone is suitable for this procedure. Dr Maurizio Viel, our plastic surgeon, will assess the patient’s scalp to check the causes of hair loss and whether there are still natural hair follicles – if that is the case, then stem cells can be used. In addition, blood panel work may be required to check the level of hormones as another indicator of suitability for the procedure. However, if the patient is bald and has no hair follicles, they would have to consider a hair transplant, which we do not offer. In these cases, we refer them to fellow specialists. It is extremely important to refer patients to other specialists who might not be suitable for stem cells. For example, not only do we refer patients to dermatologists and trichologists but other doctors from gut health and hormones specialists.
