Zoom Calls with Your Doctor: What Does It Mean? | Cornerstone Clinic | Dubai

The rapid evolution of telemedicine has also conquered Dubai! But what is telemedicine? Telemedicine is a revolutionary approach where patients can obtain remote diagnosis and treatments using telecommunications technology such as video calls (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc). At Cornerstone Clinic, we utilise this approach to connect patients with our specialists, fostering a more direct doctor-patient relationship. If this is the first time you hear the term telemedicine, we are going to recap the benefits and limitations of this new approach used worldwide.

BENEFITS

Let’s look at the benefits of video calling your doctor:

  • flexibility and less waiting time because you can schedule a date and time that is more convenient for you and the doctor
  • improved and faster access to care that can be readily available from anywhere as long as there is an internet connection
  • more cost-effective
  • reduced waiting time and, therefore, more time-efficient for our hectic schedules
  • remote monitoring of chronic conditions. It is easy to follow up with your doctor and update them on your current state
  • fast response to inquiries you may have
  • specialist referrals
  • designed for all ages (newborns to elderly population)

LIMITATIONS

Although telemedicine can be an extremely useful resource for obtaining fast replies and establishing a close relationship with your doctor, it is important to remember that there are limitations to this type of approach as opposed to physically speaking face-to-face with the doctor. These limitations can be:

  • inability to perform a physical exam. Some conditions require in-person physical examination to asses the situation
  • technical difficulties such as bad internet connection. This can lead to misunderstandings caused by internet lagging
  • inaccurate dosage of medications if they are dependant on the weight of the patient
  • limited resources as telemedicine may only cover some health services
