Discover Breast Augmentation in Dubai: Essential Information to Help You Decide

Breast Augmentation in Dubai (or “boob job“ as it is colloquially known) is one of the most popular aesthetic treatments. We understand that the option to change your body needs to be made with complete certainty, whether it’s the right decision for you and the outcome you are looking for, or to know how the surgery truly works and what recovery may look like. Breast augmentation is one of the most common procedures for women to enhance their figures, improve their body image, and boost their self-confidence today more than ever.

Created to enhance the size, shape and fullness of a woman’s breasts by inserting implants behind each breast, Breast Augmentation is perfect for anyone who wants to enlarge naturally small breasts, restore size and shape (particularly after pregnancy, weight loss or breastfeeding) or correct breast symmetry. This is not a ‘one size fits all’ solution – in fact, a range of options and techniques ensure the best possible results for you.

The Breast Augmentation Surgery

Comprehensive Guide to Different Types of Breast Implants

Breast implants can be saline or silicone and come in a number of shapes and sizes. Our surgeon, Dr Maurizio Viel, usually recommends highly cohesive silicone implants, so if the implants are cut in half, the silicone remains safely within the casing.  Manufacturers of these implants now usually provide lifetime warranties due to their quality. There are also a number of incision options that depend on factors such as the size you’re aiming for, as well as choices about the placement of the implant. Our surgeon will discuss every option with you at length prior to surgery and will evaluate your health and explain which surgical methods are best for you based on the conditions of your breasts and skin tone.

To help you visualise your possible new physique, we can also use technology to show you how your breasts and silhouette will appear after the procedure.

ANAESTHESIA

Intravenous sedation is used during the process to ensure that there is no pain and that you are asleep throughout.

SURGERY TIMING

On average, breast augmentation surgery lasts between 1 and 1.5 hours.

SURGERY

The breast surgery will take place in the hospital at your surgeon’s recommendation.  This will depend on availability and the type of procedure being carried out.  Our patients will return home the same day, but our team of nurses and doctors will continue post-op care at our clinic.

PREPARATION

You will receive detailed instructions on how to prepare for surgery, including what to eat and drink, smoking restrictions, and whether to take certain vitamins and medications.

In the week before your breast augmentation procedure, we advise you not to take any medications containing aspirin, as they affect the blood-clotting ability in the body, which can lead to excessive bleeding during the surgery.  We also ask patients to avoid large amounts of garlic, alcohol and high doses of Vitamin E. If you’re a smoker, ensure that you stop at least 2 weeks before your surgery and don’t start again for at least 2 weeks thereafter as smoking constricts the blood vessels and capillaries affecting the overall healing process. Avoid overexposure to the sun, especially on the abdomen, and avoid astringent diets, since both can impair your ability to recover.

If you catch a cold or get an infection of any type, notify the surgeon immediately, since your operation may need to be rescheduled.

AFTER THE PROCEDURE

You’re likely to feel tired and sore for a few days following your breast augmentation surgery, particularly when the arms are moved, but you will be up and around and will return home the same day after the surgery as well as returning to light routines within 24 to 48 hours. Most of your discomfort can be controlled by medication, which you will be given.

On the day of discharge, you will be given an information sheet and asked to return to the clinic one week after the operation to have your dressing removed. At that appointment, the dressings will be removed by a nurse, and the wound will also be checked. You will then be permitted to shower, but it is inadvisable to soak in the bath for at least 3 weeks. The stitches are removed at 2 weeks.  Your surgeon will check you at various stages of post-op recovery, including 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months. If there are any concerns, your surgeon will see you.

Surgery can improve your body image and self-esteem but it is a big decision and one we want to help you make with confidence and with an understanding of your individual goals and circumstances.

BREAST AUGMENTATION - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Breast augmentation, also known as mammoplasty, involves using implants to increase the size of your breasts or restore breast volume that has been lost after significant weight loss or pregnancy

Breast implants can be placed above or under the muscle, depending on your anatomy, breast tissue and desired outcome, so it is important to discuss with your surgeon your goals so that they can suggest the best technique.

Ideal candidates are those in good health, have realistic expectations, and wish to improve the size and shape of their breasts. It’s important for patients to discuss their medical history and goals with our plastic surgeon, Dr Maurizio Viel, to determine suitability.

The incision is about 3 to 5cm and is placed below the breast along the crease line. This area usually heals well and is not obviously seen, allowing for a natural finish.

The breast augmentation surgery will be conducted under sedation, and it usually takes 1 to 2 hours. Sedation is a medical process used to help a patient relax, reduce stress and discomfort, and, in some cases, induce partial or full unconsciousness during medical procedures. Patients usually don’t remember the procedure. The patient will recover in 2 to 3 hours before discharge. This also depends on how fast the patient’s recovery is.

Our plastic surgeon, Dr Maurizio Viel, will first assess your breasts to decide which are the best breast implants for you. Typically, we use the new generation of silicone implants, which are made with elastic, soft, cohesive silicone gel. These implants now have a lifetime warranty from the manufacturers and don’t have to be changed every 10 – 15 years, but you should always visit your surgeon to be assessed every few years.

It is required that the patient will bring a non-wired, cotton bra to wear post-surgery. The size depends on the increase of the breast size from the current size. Patient should wear it for 1-month post-surgery.

The first change of dressing will be done 5 days after the surgery, the second will be on the 10th day. Stitch removal is done on the 14% day post-surgery.

The patient should come back on the first, second and third months post-surgery for follow-up appointments with the surgeon.

Generally, most plastic surgeons recommend waiting 4 – 6 weeks before fully submerging your chest to avoid infections

NO water at all should be used for at least 48 hours post-operation, as the incision needs to be kept dry.

A full recovery takes anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks.

However, patients can start to feel better and resume work 1 to 2 weeks post-operation.

Light exercise can be done 3 to 4 weeks after the treatment. The level of difficulty in exercising must be done gradually, so full activity, including heavy lifting, running, and high-impact sports, can be approved after 6 weeks.

Immediately after the procedure, your breasts will look high, tight, and unnaturally round. Over time, around 3 to 6 months after, the muscles will naturally relax, allowing the implants to drop a little lower for a more natural look.
