Mole Excision / Removal In Dubai

Moles are generally harmless growths of skin pigmentations. They can be flat, raised, small, or large, and they can range in colour. Moles can be removed for aesthetic reasons or because they have changed in colour or size, which may indicate melanoma, a type of skin cancer.  A cosmetic procedure called mole excision is performed to remove moles from any area of your skin.

MOLE REMOVAL

Moles are generally harmless; however, some people may consider their removal because they can snag on clothing or jewellery, get nicked while shaving, be easily irritated, or just look unattractive. Other moles may need to be removed for health reasons, so it is important to have an annual check-up of your moles.

A thorough consultation with a qualified dermatologist at Cornerstone Clinic Dubai is necessary to map all moles on your skin.  Digital videodermatoscopy (mole mapping) is a fundamental test in the prevention of cutaneous melanoma, especially for those with a family history of melanoma or who are very fair-skinned. The qualified specialist will examine the body with a magnifying tool to look for any suspicious moles. Mole mapping is extremely useful for preventing skin cancer and for providing an overview of moles and whether they change over the years. If a suspicious mole is found, it can be removed surgically.

Melanoma is different from a mole in 5 ways (ABCDE):

  • A = Asymmetry: a characteristic being different between the two sides
  • B = Border: irregular or poorly defined border
  • C = Colour: varies from one area to another
  • D = Diameter: usually greater than 6mm in size
  • E = Evolving: looks different from the rest or is changing in size, shape, or colour

MOLE REMOVAL PROCEDURE IN DUBAI

The procedure is minimally invasive and is carried out under local anaesthetic to ensure comfort. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, so you can return to your daily routine straight after.

The most common methods used for mole removal are:

  • Laser Treatment for Moles: For flat, pigmented moles (brown or black), laser therapy works well. Before the removal of mole tissue by laser beams, a local anaesthetic is administered. Usually, 2 to 3 sessions are required. Laser mole removal is not appropriate for elevated or large moles.
  • Excision: The mole and some surrounding skin are surgically removed, and the wound is sutured up. Perfect for larger moles, as it removes them immediately.

MOLE REMOVAL RECOVERY

Recovery is often swift and simple. Tiny scabs may appear and could be caused by stitches, but they usually go away with time. Within 7 to 10 days, follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor healing and ensure a full recovery. Following your surgeon’s post-care recommendations is crucial for optimal outcomes and a quicker recovery.
