BREAST AUGMENTATION: KNOW THE PATIENT JOURNEY

BREAST AUGMENTATION DUBAI  | 4 JANUARY 2025

Let’s walk you through the important phases of the breast augmentation process and give you an overview of what to expect along the way!

Preparation Stage

You should research the procedure in advance of your breast augmentation consultation, making notes on the questions you want to ask. To show your surgeon, look at before and after pictures and compile a list of breasts you like and don’t like. In order to provide support during your appointment, we also advise locating a reliable confidant, such as a friend or family member.

Breast Surgeon Consultation

The reasons for breast implant surgery, your goals for breast surgery, any worries you may have, and your medical history will all be covered at your consultation with your surgeon. As we previously said, it is beneficial to show the surgeon pictures of your preferred and disliked breasts in order to convey your desired look.

Sizing Appointment

You should schedule a sizing session during or after your consultation so that your surgeon may take measurements and suggest the best sizes and options for you. You can experiment with different sizes by using a sizer bra. Your surgeon ought to go over the options for round or teardrop-shaped implants with you and suggest the one that would work best for you. Depending on your anatomy and measurements, your surgeon will go over various approaches with you, such as the placement of breast augmentation scars and whether to place the implant in front or behind the muscle. Since each person is unique, it’s critical that the implant and process are customised for you.

Patient Coordinator

After your meeting with the surgeon, you will be paired with a patient coordinator who will guide you along the way and serve as your point of contact for Cornerstone if you require any information or guidance. They can set up pre- and post-operative appointments, talk about the dates of the procedure, and direct any queries you might have to the surgeon or their nursing staff.

Preparing for your op

For a quicker and more seamless recovery, it is crucial to maintain optimal health, which Cornerstone will provide guidance on. Approximately two weeks prior to your procedure, you will need to attend a pre-op appointment where our nursing team will review your medical history, determine whether you need to stop taking any medications, and conduct a blood, urine, and MRSA swab test to make sure you are healthy enough to have surgery.  Everything you need to know about your operation day will be sent to you, including travel instructions, what to bring, and what time to arrive. Additionally, you should make sure that a friend or family member has been scheduled to accompany you on the day.

Operation

Medical examinations, such as blood pressure checks, will be conducted on the day before operation. After that, the surgeon will go over the process with you, get your approval, and take “before” pictures so you can see the change after the procedure. After the surgeon makes surgical incisions on you, you will be brought to the operating room and given anaesthesia. About an hour is needed for the procedure. A bra or dressing will be put to your bust following the procedure. You might experience some discomfort. You will be provided food and liquids, and a few hours following the procedure, you will be cleared to go home after being examined by the surgeon and their staff.

Aftercare

Your surgeon will have given you aftercare recommendations, which include refraining from driving and heavy lifting for at least a week following surgery. While it’s crucial to rest in the days after your surgery, we nonetheless advise you to remain active and mobile. Although exercise should be avoided for six weeks after the treatment, the majority of patients return to work within two weeks and many are back to their regular routines by then as well. Following surgery, you might have some discomfort, which you can manage with pain medication. You might also notice that your breasts are a little swollen and sore.

Post-Op Check Up

One week after surgery, you will have your first follow-up appointment. A member of the nursing staff will check you out, change your dressings and provide any necessary advise.  About six weeks after the procedure, you will have another appointment with the surgeon. You will have unlimited appointments for three years following your procedure as part of our special aftercare package, and your surgeon may suggest particular post-operative times that they would want to see you.

Looking after scars

Following surgery, the majority of surgeons will tape your incision and advise you on when to begin bathing, showering, and cleaning the area. Your nurse will change the tape, examine the scar, and, most of the time, apply another dressing during your one-week post-operative visit with Cornerstone. The majority of the time, non-removable absorbable sutures have been employed. Additionally, the surgical team and your nurse will provide you information on how to take care of your scars.

For the first four to six weeks, we often suggest using tape to stabilise the scars. The scar will eventually become flat and very pale, but this normally takes a year or more, and it gets better with time. Your surgeon will go over specific products to help heal the scar at your 6-week check-up.
