Gut health directly influences skin concerns like acne, eczema, and premature ageing through the gut-skin axis, a bidirectional communication system mediated by the immune system, the nervous system, hormones, and microbial metabolites. An imbalance in the gut microbiome (dysbiosis) and compromised gut barrier function (leaky gut) are key drivers of this influence.

The most visible signs on the skin that can indicate a gut imbalance (dysbiosis) are inflammatory conditions and general changes in skin quality, including:

  • Acne and Breakouts
  • Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis)
  • Rosacea
  • Redness and Generalized Inflammation
  • Dryness and Flakiness
  • Puffiness and Dark Circle

Commonly misunderstood dietary habits for gut health and glowing skin include underestimating the impact of high-sugar and refined carbohydrate foods, which can lead to inflammation, acne, and premature aging.
